One Day in December by Josie Silver.
My rating: 5 of 5 stars.
Josie Silver’s One Day in December is an entertaining second chance love story that begins when Laurie James first encounters Jack O’Mara as she notices him through the steamed-up windows of her bus when it pulls up at a bus stop.
Their eyes meet and she wills him to get on, but he isn’t quick enough and the bus leaves without him. From that moment, Laurie knows him only as bus boy, but for a year she attempts to find him again, failing until he happens to enters her life again under very different circumstances.
The story is set over ten years, following the twists and turns of the characters’ lives. The narrative switches frequently between the viewpoint of Laurie and Jack, and there are some hilarious quotes which made me laugh out loud, as well as a couple of sad moments and more poignant lines that made me stop and think.
I recommend One Day in December as a good, light-hearted love story. It’s set in London, which made the people and places easy for me to relate to. It gets five stars from me.
