I’ve been meditating for a long time now, on and off, but more recently I’ve been on a solid streak that involves twice daily meditation for twenty minutes at a time. I’m working my way towards upping that to thirty minutes per sit, but I think it will be another couple of months before I’m ready for that.
Sitting Twice Daily
Morning meditation has always been at the heart of my practice, with perhaps a quick five-minute session during the day if I feel particularly stressed. Up until recently it never occurred to me that I could get extra benefit from a morning sit and an afternoon sit on the same day.
Feeling a Difference
Since I began meditating in the afternoon several weeks ago, I’ve noticed a real difference in the way I feel. In the evening I’m much calmer, able to relax more easily. On days when I’m working, it feels like a mental bowing out before I lock and close my laptop, and begin the transition into personal time.
The afternoon sit definitely helps me unwind, and feels very much like putting a closing parenthesis after the pressures of a work day.
